Coon Creek Watershed District is seeking volunteers to help monitor levels of chloride (salt) in Blaine. Volunteers will receive test strips to measure chloride levels throughout the winter in street runoff or a nearby pond or stream. Volunteers will report results using the Water Reporter website or app.
Chloride is a permanent pollutant. Just one teaspoon of salt can permanently pollute five gallons of water. Winter Salt Watch volunteers will help find salt pollution hot spots which we will target for future salt use optimization projects.
