Almost all the bodies of water in Blaine are stormwater ponds. These ponds are constructed and designed for the purpose of treating stormwater runoff and providing flood storage. The City of Blaine has over 700 stormwater ponds and infiltration basins that have been designed to remove pollutants from runoff. These ponds are not designed for recreation. There is a constant flow of water in and out of stormwater ponds, even in the winter. This flow of water makes them unsafe for winter recreation such as ice skating. For your safety and the integrity of the stormwater pond system, the City strongly encourages you to not use stormwater ponds for recreation this winter. The City has several outdoor ice rinks for recreation. See the interactive rink finder map for locations, a list of hours, and amenities: BlaineMN.gov/RinkMap.
