City of Blaine Kicks Off Northtown Planning Study
The City of Blaine has been working with Damon Farber to create a plan to revitalize an over 200-acre study area in the Northtown area. The area includes Northtown Mall, North Court Commons, the Anoka County Library, Rainbow Village and Autozone among other retail areas. Together with Damon Farber the City is examining fixing existing storm water issues, developing green space, the usability for various forms of transportation, and potential changes in land use to revitalize and redevelop the area.
To kick off this study, the team attended WorldFest on September 11 at Tom Ryan Park to solicit feedback from community members on what changes they would like to see in the Northtown area. Throughout the months of September and October the team has also been meeting with surrounding communities, land owners, and key businesses in the area to determine what problems they would like to see addressed in the Northtown area. Damon Farber has also been examining accident statistics, storm water issues and other issues in the study area.
Next steps for the Northtown Planning Study includes a community survey and working with the City Council on the study. In addition, a community meeting will be held on December 9 to update the community on the progress of the study.
