Blaine Biz Connect is a monthly e-newsletter to keep you up to date on development happenings in the City of Blaine. From commercial to industrial to residential, Blaine is one of the fastest growing cities in Minnesota and always has new and exciting projects on the horizon.

In this newsletter, you will learn about featured developments, groundbreakings, grand openings, new businesses coming to Blaine, and recent approvals by the Blaine City Council.

Featured Development - National Sports Center Dome


The National Sports Center received approvals for a seasonal dome that will service the increasing demand for winter indoor field space for soccer, lacrosse, ultimate, baseball, softball and golf. The project was approved by the Blaine City Council on August 5.

The dome will be located in the NSC Stadium, and will measure 110 feet tall by 260 feet wide by 450 long and cover 117,260 square feet. The size of the floor is actually 130 percent the size of an 80 yard by 120 yard soccer field. It will incorporate part of the Welcome Center building as its entry way.

The dome will go up for six months, from November 1 through April 30. During the summer months, the stadium will return to its configuration of two outdoor full size soccer fields.

The NSC will program time in the dome for its own leagues and tournaments, but significant blocks of time will be rented to local sports associations. Minnesota United FC will also utilize the domed field for winter training.

Recent City Council Approvals

On August 5, the city council approved an expansion for the outdoor material warehouse for Menards, located on Baltimore Street. The 16,000 square foot expansion will occur south of the existing building and provide additional storage for building materials.

On August 19, the city council approved a free standing solar array for Aveda. The array will be located at the southeast corner of Pheasant Ridge Drive and Lexington Avenue on land owned by Aveda. The array will be on 3.8 acres and consist of 2,916 modules.

On August 19, the city council approved a 14,000 square foot multi-tenant building at the southeast corner of Main Street and Lexington Avenue. This is a redevelopment project of the former Leezer’s Express Shell gas station. It is anticipated the building will have a sit down restaurant, coffee shop, and additional retail/service uses. Construction is anticipated to start in the fall.

North Central Plaza


On September 4, the city council approved the construction of a 14,000 square foot office building located at 11820 Ulysses Street across from Edgemont Senior Living. The building will have five tenant spaces for various office or service retail uses.

Recent Groundbreakings

The Imagine Center under construction

The Imagine Center


The developer broke ground on the Imagine Center in August. The Imagine Center is located near Blaine City Hall on Town Square Drive. This 16,000 square foot office building will be the new home for Imagine Smiles Dentistry. Space is available for other tenants.   
The Goddard School under construction

The Goddard School


Goddard School broke ground on a 10,000 square foot child care and early learning center at 126th Avenue and Ulysses Street. The school will serve infant through preschool aged children and have an enrollment of approximately 150 students.

Grading for this project began in August. Cedar Point is a 138 unit market rate apartment at the corner of 117th Avenue and Ulysses Street. 

Did You Know?


Blaine residents are served by three school districts; Anoka-Hennepin ISD # 11, Spring Lake Park Schools ISD #16 and Centennial Schools ISD #12. Much of Anoka-Hennepin serves neighborhoods on the west side of Blaine and north of Main Street, Spring Lake Park serves the center of Blaine including the TPC and Lakes developments and Centennial serves east Blaine. Between the three districts there are 12 schools in Blaine.
